What is Drum Dyeing?

Drum dyeing is a traditional artisanal process in which the fully assembled bag is immersed in large rotating drums along with nourishing and coloring agents. As the drums turn, the leather gradually absorbs the dye, allowing the color to penetrate deep into the fibers. This results in irregular shades, and a vintage style. The outcome is a soft, vibrant bag with an authentic, vintage style — one that tells a story from the very first glance.

Drum dyeing

  • It brings out the natural beauty of the leather, ensuring every bag is one of a kind
  • It imparts a supple feel and a softly lustrous, authentic finish—without any synthetic coatings—
  • allows the piece to develop character over daily use

After dyeing, the products are gently air-dried and then hand-finished, with each step adjusted to achieve the desired effect

We don’t seek perfection. We seek the soul of authentic things

SUSTAINABILITY

Why is vegetable-tanned leather more environmentally friendly than other leathers?

  1. Natural tannins
Vegetable tanning uses tannins extracted from plants—bark, leaves, and fruits (e.g., mimosa, chestnut, oak)—instead of harsh chemicals. These plant-based extracts are biodegradable and far less polluting.
  2. No heavy metals
Chrome tanning, the most common industrial method, relies on chromium salts (heavy metals) that can be toxic if not handled properly. Vegetable-tanned leather contains no heavy metals, making it safer for both people and the planet.
  3. Low-impact process
Vegetable tanning takes weeks rather than hours. This slower, artisanal method generates fewer toxic byproducts and produces wastewater that’s easier to treat.

4. Durability & longevityVegetable-tanned leather develops a rich patina over time and lasts significantly longer. The result? Less waste, lower consumption, and a truly sustainable production cycle.
